I wrote all those articles on weekends and reflections on Panama, but I did not write about the real reason I am here this summer, my thesis project. This project has been brewing in my mind since November, when my first e-mail now my advisor. I wrote two with a couple of great ideas in my head. I am interested in studying how plants use water, and I wanted to see changes as a forest grows after he was cut during a period of time, a process known as secondary succession. And I wanted to go to the tropics.This was the starting point, and after months of e-mails and reading and grant applications and practical frantic, I had a project. I went to work in the secondary succession chronosequence Agua Salud (mainly forest areas at different ages, to study how processes of change with age, without having to wait 30 years), and going to the study of some simple physiological traits and hints to study the anatomy and chemical content ... palm.My teacher loves palm trees (she has her master's thesis on them), a post-doc in our laboratory will study the palms, palm trees are everywhere in the tropics!...
