Like many of us this Christmas, I received a Kindle in my stocking. I had really wanted one for ages but only recently have they been kindly put at our disposal 94% of the world population not living in the United States. Go figure.
I really like my Kindle. I especially like the opportunity to hear about a book and read it in minutes. I am a voracious reader and it's just beautiful.
But it illustrates very well the difference between "research" and "discovery". If you know what book you want, it is easy to find on your Kindle (or PC).But if you just want to be the equivalent of wandering into a bookstore on Sunday afternoons in winter and random browsing in the library, digital can match the similar experience. Of course, we have recommendation engines and similar events, but they are still pretty basic and seem to lag behind most other technologies. I will not go into an exhaustive list here, but I lost count of the times I found the book again a favorite author by visiting a library or reading a review in analog media.And yet I have already told Amazon I love this author, then why have they not told me about the new book?...
LEE - Volunteer Firefighter Epping Santeri Richard Jr. has resigned from his post following a joke in which he drove an old police car and used an air horn to draw more of a friend in another vehicle to replace Lee market last Tuesday.
Lee police had believed the incident was related to incidents in Rochester police imposter. Santeri was later identified as the man and it was determined he was not involved in the incidents of Rochester.
Police said people in the other car were friends of Santeri and use him to scare a person in the passenger seat of the vehicle.Santeri honked the horn as he pulled on the car but never used his emergency lights, so there were no charges filed.
